Samsung DW80K7050UG Dishwasher Review and Guide

Hand-washing dirty dishes in hot, soapy water after your dishwasher dies is no fun. Thankfully, Samsung’s DW80K7050UG dishwasher may spare you from this fate.

You see them when you walk to the fridge. Notice them while you’re going to the bathroom. Cringe as you glance back at them on your way out the door while leaving for work. Unfortunately, we can’t just wish dirty dishes away; we have to clean them at some point.

The good news is that there are beautiful machines known as dishwashers that can tackle this task for you. These wonder boxes, once considered luxury items, are now essential in most homes. The first dishwasher patent was held by an American named Joel Houghton in 1850 and started as a wooden machine with a hand-cranked wheel that splashed water on dishes.

However, his machine was hardly what you could call “effective” at washing dishes. So in 1866, a woman named Josephine Cochrane proclaimed in disgust “If nobody else is going to invent a dishwashing machine, I’ll do it myself.” Cochrane’s invention debuted at the 1893 World’s Fair, and the rest became history.

Thanks to recent dishwasher technology, we no longer have to scrub away for hours on dishes, pots, and pans with a steel wool brush in water almost hot enough to use for cooking. Now, bubble baths are the only good reason to suffer from prune fingers.

Helpful Tips for Buying a New Dishwasher

When buying a new dishwasher, it’s easy to get distracted by some of the latest models. After all, they’re designed to look like something that fell off an alien spacecraft with all their blinking lights and features.

We now live in an age where we can talk to our dishwashers along with our other “smart” appliances. But, before your dishwasher conspires with the other devices in your household to overthrow the human race, you really need it to take care of that burnt casserole pan.

So here are some helpful tips on what to look for when shopping for a new overlord…err, I mean dishwasher.

The first thing to consider is size. Most dishwashers are available in two sizes, 18 inches and 24 inches. If you live alone or are a couple who live alone, then the 18-inch model may suit your needs just fine. However, if you live in a household with three or more people, it’s probably best to go with the more common 24-inch model.

Second, you want to think about wash cycles. The most commonly used wash cycles are Regular, Light, Econo, and Pots & Pans settings. The Econo cycle dries dishes using air dry.

There are also enhanced cleaning modes such as Rinse, Glass or Stemware, Quick Wash, Sanitize, and Pots Scrub.

Finally, you want to consider performance features such as how and where water jets are distributing water during a cycle. A three-tier jet system will provide excellent coverage. A machine’s noise level is also something to consider, the last thing you want is to hear the dishwasher over your favorite TV show.

These are just a few considerations to keep in mind before you spend hundreds on a new dishwasher.

Our Evaluation Process

In evaluating the Samsung DW80K7050UG dishwasher, we chose to focus on what real customers had to say. The most helpful reviews come from the feedback of people who spend their hard-earned money to purchase the product.

These folks will often give you the whole truth and nothing but the truth about everything good and bad about a product.

Of course, not all customer feedback deserves the weight of consideration. Many bad reviews are unhelpful if they only focus on the negatives of a defective product. Some of the most helpful reviews are usually mostly satisfied customers who have a few minor complaints.

However, reviews from customers with significant complaints about the effectiveness of certain advertised benefit features are also beneficial.

To establish a more objective final evaluation of the Samsung DW80K7050UG model, we also looked at three other comparable models from three different manufacturers. With those models, we also focused intently on customer feedback.

Introducing the Samsung DW80K7050UG Top Control Dishwasher with Stormwash™

The Samsung DW80K7050UG Top Control Dishwasher with Stormwash™ features six washing cycles plus a bacteria-destroying sanitize option. The StormWash cycle eliminates the need for prewashing, tackling the toughest dishes.

The autorelease door feature dries dishes faster by opening the door after a wash cycle and circulating air to speed up drying.

FlexLoad racking allows you to fit in up to 15 place settings with ease and accommodate large loads of all shapes and sizes. The third rack feature creates more space by giving you a dedicated rack for utensils and cutlery. The digital leak sensor protects your floors by identifying leaks and shutting off the system if necessary.

At 44 dBA, this machine operates at a near-whisper. The unit also features hidden touch controls using an integrated panel that’s clear and easy to understand.

Customers gave very positive reviews about how quiet the Samsung ran. They also liked the third rack feature. The StormWash feature was said to work well for greasy pots and pans. Many customers also liked the built-in air dry feature.

On the other hand, there were a few customers who complained about what they described as an inherent design flaw in the machine. Apparently, some owners experienced an LC error code which indicates a leak somewhere in the system. According to some customers, this is a pervasive issue with this model.

The Samsung DW80K7050UG comes with a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor, and a five-year warranty on the printed circuit board, racking, lifetime stainless door liner, and tub for leakage.

The Samsung DW80K7050UG Top Control Dishwasher with Stormwash™ Against the Competition

Samsung’s DW80K7050UG model dishwasher has a lot of impressive features, as well as a good number of customers impressed by those features. However, this isn’t the only dishwashing machine in town. We found three top-brand dishwashers with many of the same features.

These comparable models are also highly regarded by most of their customers, giving the Samsung dishwasher some stiff competition. We also took a close look at the features, customer reviews, and warranty information of all the models.

Our three comparison models are the Frigidaire Gallery 24” Built-In Dishwasher with EvenDry™ System, the LG Top Control Smart wi-fi Enabled Dishwasher with QuadWash™, and the Maytag Top Control Dishwasher With Powerdry Options and Third Level Rack.

Frigidaire FBD2400KS Stainless Built-In Dishwasher

The Frigidaire FBD2400KS Stainless Built-In Dishwasher offers a variety of features that make it a worthy competitor against the Samsung DW80K7050UG. With space for 12 different place settings and a full-width wash arm, you can clean all of your dishes in just one cycle.

One of the key features of the Frigidaire FBD2400KS is its Energy Saver no-heat dry setting. Combined with the polymer tub, which aids in getting and keeping your dishes dry, you can wash and dry even your most high-maintenance dinnerware. Plus, the removable stainless steel filter is self-cleaning and ensures your dishes are spotless after every cycle.

Every part of this dishwasher is 100-percent designed and manufactured in the USA. However, it is not Energy Star-certified. As far as noise is concerned, the Frigidaire model comes in at 62 dBA, so noticeably louder than the DW80K7050UG.

Overall, this dishwasher has mixed reviews, with the most common complaints relating to noise level and its ability to effectively clean dirty dishes.

Bosch S800 24″ Pocket Handle Dishwasher

If you prefer a sleek dishwasher that will complement the rest of your kitchen, the Bosch S800 24″ Pocket Handle Dishwasher will certainly pique your interest. With easy-to-use and understand controls hidden along the top of the door, this dishwasher’s exterior is clean and stylish. The black stainless steel finish is even resistant to unsightly scratches and smudges.
This dishwasher features a unique third rack with adjustable tines, allowing you to fit anything and everything into your dishwasher. And for specialty items like glassware be sure to select the appropriate preprogrammed cycle for a perfect clean.

The Bosch S800 is equipped with PrecisionWash™ and InfoLight™. PrecisionWash™ checks your dishes periodically throughout the cycle to ensure every item is cleaned before the machine stops. InfoLight™ projects a convenient, subtle red light onto the floor to tell you when your dishwasher is running.

Wondering why the light is such an important feature? Because this dishwasher is so quiet you’ll forget it’s running! At 42 dBA, the Bosch S800 is even quieter than the Samsung DW80K7050UG.

Happy customers loved how quiet this dishwasher is and how well it cleans their dishes. However, some did mention issues with the machine not drying their dishes after each cycle.

If you’re looking for a stylish dishwasher to add to your home, it might be exactly what you’re looking for.

SPT SD-9252SS Dishwasher

Our last competitor is the SPT SD-9252SS Dishwasher. While this dishwasher might not look like much at first, it is one of the best options for homeowners that need an effective but compact dishwasher for their small kitchen. After all, at only 18 inches, this dishwasher will fit almost anywhere.

Key features of this dishwasher include delayed start, clear error codes, and a pre-rinse refill reminder. With its small size also comes a limited eight place setting capacity and only two racks. But you can rely on your dishes always coming out clean with the help of the dual sprayer arms and stainless steel interior.

With the SPT SD-9252SS Dishwasher, you have six different cycles from which to choose. Plus, with its Energy Star rating, you can rest easy knowing your dishwasher isn’t draining excess power.

Regarding noise, this dishwasher comes in at 55 dBA. While this isn’t necessarily loud, it also isn’t as quiet as the Samsung or Bosch models.

The main issues listed in customer concerns include unclear installation instructions and the small load capacity.

The Samsung DW80K7050UG Top Control Dishwasher with Stormwash™: The Benefits and Drawbacks

The Samsung DW80K7050UG Top Control Dishwasher with Stormwash™: Superior Cleaning or Wishy Washy?

If we were handing out awards for the coolest sounding dishwasher on the planet, the Samsung DW80K7050UG Top Control Dishwasher with Stormwash™ would be in the top running. With a name like Stormwash, it sounds like it should be a character in a G.I Joe cartoon. However, for our purposes, we must regrettably ignore this factor to instead focus on performance and quality. In that case, we can not recommend this Samsung dishwasher over at least one other model we reviewed.

The Samsung model didn’t have a lot of negatives that were common in most dishwashers. However, the pervasive leak error code was a concern. So instead we recommend the Maytag Top Control Dishwasher With Powerdry Options and Third Level Rack model. This dishwasher was our top pick, and Maytag offered one of the most generous warranties you can find for a dishwasher. We hope this information will help you find the dishwasher of your dreams. Good luck.
